Saguaro Cactus & a workshop in Tucson, AZ

Saguaros in Tucson's Eastern Park

It was fun to travel to Tucson and teach a 3-day workshop for the Olde Pueblo Rug Hookers! I’ve never been to Tucson and I was surprised by the beautiful mountains that embrace the town.

My hostess, Kathy Kovaric, lives outside Tucson and took several different routes into Tucson each morning to show me around the town. On the last day, she treated me to a drive through the Eastern section of the Saguaro National Park, and stopped several times so I could get out and take a few photos. Every plant in that park has stickers… I soon found out!

It was early in the day and many bicyclists and joggers were already in the park, enjoying the views of Saguaros before it got too hot!

The ‘Stick Plant’, on the left, usually looks pretty lean and mean, but if it gets enough water; it puts out lovely little leaves and always sports a red flag at the top of each ‘stick’!

For me, the light is such an important ingredient in an artistic photograph. The morning light and the saguaro landscape was an inspiration; a lovely bit of creative play before the last day of workshop. The workshop participants had a wide variety of projects to work on and I really enjoyed working with everyone! I was quite busy and didn’t take the time to take photographs of the participants and their projects. Hopefully, they will send photos of their finished projects soon!

It was fascinating driving by fields and fields of ‘moth-balled’ military planes at Davis Monthan Air Force Base. The dry atmosphere of Arizona keeps the airplanes well and they provide parts as needed.

I’d love to go back to Tucson and am dreaming about going to the Old Pueblo Rug Hookers Annual Hook-In, Saturday, January 24, 2015, 9 am – 4 pm at La Paloma Country Club, 3660 East Sunrise Drive, Tucson, AZ 85718
