Monterey Bay Rug Camp – final post

I am going to speed through the rest of the photos from the Monterey Bay Rug Camp … my blog has gotten way behind and i have other photos and stories to share.

Hydrangea dyed & hooked by Kate Smith

Kate Smith started this lovely rug with Helen Connelly at Asilomar Rug School several years ago.  She had put it away  for awhile… until she realized that she needed darker darks for her hydrangeas.  She revisited her dye notes and dyed her darks then created special wool for the lattice; dip-dye greys with hydrangea colour!  We watched her finish  the remaining hydrangea and most of the lattice at Little River Inn Rug Camp; under Nancy Quigley’s care and guidance.   It was wonderful that she could bring the finished rug to Asilomar (Monterey Bay Rug Camp) again; a tribute to Asilomar and Helen Connelly!

Old Oxnard designed & hooked by Sharon Clarke

Green Valley designed & hooked by Brigitta Phy

These 2 landscapes were also among our Wednesday Rug Show & Tell.

Capri Jones teaches an interesting mini-class about water & sky.

1st rug show & tell on Thursday

We had so many beautiful rugs to show, we had to triple up on Thursday to see them all.

2nd rug show & tell for Thursday

The runner on the left was designed and hooked by Tracy Johnson… at Asilomar, several years ago.  Another camper with the perfect place for it was able to purchase it from Tracy = 2 happy campers!

Week's progress show & tell - Rained In

At the end of class on Thursday, everyone set up their projects for viewing and we milled around and enjoyed a casual project show.

The Staff; we enjoyed bringing the Monterey Bay Rug Camp together!   Thanks to all the campers for making it possible.

3rd rug show & tell for Thursday

It was great seeing all the rugs!

Finally, Sharon Clarke hooked a rug from start to finish during the week long camp!  It’s inspired from an antique rug showcased in Gail Dufresne’s new book; ‘Geometric Hooked Rugs’.

  1. Laura, Thank YOU for being willing to manage the camp and to tend to all the details and for making it possible for us to have a rug school in this wonderful place! Sarah
