demo’ing at Sonoma Co Fair

Dawnelle, Laura and Mary Ann at the Sonoma Co Fair.

Our guild, Wine Country Rug Hookers, always demonstrates at the Sonoma County Fair. We enter our rugs in the Fair Competition so we can have the opportunity to spread the word about Traditional Rug Hooking. It seems like many of the people we meet come to the fair to experience an old fashioned entertainment, often sharing it with their families. Of course not too many people come into the Garrett Building to see the ‘Crafts’, but if they do… we’re there along with the Quilters, Spinners, Weavers and Needle Pointers.

Dawnelle and I had just started our shift on Thursday, when Eric and Mary Ann Swanson stopped by to take some photos. Thanks Eric!

Rug Show behind Dawnelle

This was a new space for our Rugs and our table; it was nicely arranged like an Art Show. Originally, our rugs were mixed in with the quilts and a meager space for demonstrating was hidden behind a peg-board stand. The guild members that had signed up for the first days of the fair had to work with the Fair Management to get things rearranged. The end result was a nice layout of our rugs and a good relationship with the Fair.

On Saturday, I joined China to demo, have a nice visit and get more hooking done! There are pluses to demo’ing at the Fair!
